Alcohol Task Force Initiated as Arizona State University Students Head Back to School

Fall is upon is. That means college students from Arizona State University will soon be returning to school. As a way to crack down on underage drinking and drunk-driving accidents and fatalities, the Tempe Police Department has initiated a task force.

The task force has plans to run until August 27th and is located on the corner of Mill Avenue and University Drive. The force will be comprised of officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona State University Police Department, Gilbert, Scottsdale, Mesa and Chandler Police Departments as well as the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. In addition, officers from the Tempe Police Department’s Central City Bureau and Patrol Division are also assisting.

In the wake of the annual college welcome week, task force participants are specifically responding to party complaints targeting those gatherings that seemingly have a large number of underage alcohol violations.

Last year, the Tempe Police arrested almost 1800 individuals for drunk driving or driving while impaired; over 130 of those arrested were under the age of 21.

Due to current concentrated efforts aimed at targeting underage drinking and driving, Tempe, Arizona, DUI attorneys cannot stress enough the importance of seeking legal help if the need arises.
